POST GRAD WORK PERMIT SOLUTIONS

On August 2nd, 2022, the Government of Canada announced that they would be implementing measures for former international students whose postgraduate work permits (PGWPs) have expired or are expiring. They are also implementing new measures for temporary resident to permanent resident (TR to PR) pathway applicants.

Beginning on August 8, 2022, PGWP holders whose work permits expired on or after September 20, 2021, or will expire by December 31, 2022, will qualify to apply for 18-month work permit by either extending their status or submitting a new application. Both types of applicants can continue to work in Canada while their application is processing.

Depending on the expiry date of the PGWP, these new measures will affect applicants in different ways.
